ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After a thrilling Big Ten Tournament championship run that saw the Wolverines defeat each of the top four seeded teams, the University of Michigan baseball team received an automatic berth in the 2022 NCAA Division I Championship on Monday (May 30) when the 64-team NCAA field was announced.

• The Wolverines have been assigned to the Louisville, Ky. Regional, which will be hosted by the University of Louisville and played Friday through Monday (June 3-6). The Wolverines are the No. 3 seed will play No. 2-seeded Oregon in the opener on Friday (June 3) at 7 p.m.

• The Wolverines are making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Erik Bakich and 26th overall.  Under Bakich, Michigan has appeared in the 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and now the 2022 tournaments. Michigan was the national runner-up in 2019, finally bowing in the winner-take-all third game of the championship series against Vanderbilt following a remarkable 50-win campaign.

• Michigan also advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2015 by way of winning the Big Ten Tournament, which serves as an automatic qualifier.

• Michigan owns an all-time NCAA Tournament record of 70-53 (.576), including a 52-36 mark during regional play. The Wolverines have advanced to the College World Series eight times, most recently in 2019, and won national titles in 1953 and 1962.

• The Wolverines had an up and down regular season, compiling a 28-25 overall record and a 12-12 record in Big Ten play. The Wolverines warmed up towards the end of the regular-season and, in the Big Ten Tournament, defeated in order, fourth-seed Illinois, top-seeded Maryland, third-seeded Iowa and second-seeded Rutgers to win the school's 10th tournament championship and first since 2015. Prior to the season, the Wolverines were picked by the league's coaches to finish second in the Big Ten this year.

• The NCAA opener will mark the Wolverines' 12th neutral-site contest this season. Michigan is 7-4 when playing in neutral venues so far this year.

• Friday's game will serve as the first meeting between Oregon and Michigan in history. Michigan has also never faced off against Southeast Missouri State, who will play host Louisville in the first round. U-M and Louisville squared off earlier this season at the Cardinals' home field, playing a three-game series that featured bitter cold and snow. Michigan is 1-6 against Louisville all-time.

• Michigan's offense was electric during tournament play, batting a collective .331 with a staggering .440 on-base percentage against the league's top teams. Michigan slugged seven home runs into stiff winds at Charles Schwab Field, and added 16 doubles and a triple while terrorizing the opposition on the base paths with a perfect 9-for-9 mark in steal attempts.

Matt Frey led all players with a .471 batting average in the tournament while Joe Stewart sported a .350 mark. Tournament MVP Clark Elliott batted .316 with two homers, eight RBI and four stolen bases. Catcher Jimmy Obertop belted a tournament-best three home runs, including a clutch three-run bomb in the eighth inning of the championship victory against Rutgers.

• Michigan received timely relief pitching throughout the tournament, including all-tournament right-hander Cameron Weston who made three appearances, striking out 11 batters in 7.0 innings of work with two saves. Sophomore lefty Jacob Denner took center stage on Sunday as he threw 4.1 innings of clutch relief against Rutgers, striking out a career-high seven batters.

• Named to the all-tournament team were Elliott, Frey, Obertop, Weston, Riley Bertram at shortstop (.429, 4 RBI) and Tito Flores at designated hitter (5 RBI).
